The Institute for Theoretical Physics at the Georg-August-University Göttingen/Germany invites applications for a full-time
Postdoc position in
Condensed Matter Theory
- TV-L E13 (100 %, 39,8 hrs/week, f/m/d) -
in the group of Prof. Dr. Fabian Heidrich-Meisner. The interests of the group focus on the theoretical modelling of non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many-body systems using advanced computational techniques, Topics include thermalization in closed quantum systems, eigenstate thermalization, transport properties, constrained dynamics, many-body localization and nonequlibrium dynamics in strongly correlated materials.
The position will be initially for a fixed term of two years, with the possibility of an extension for another year, starting from September 1st, 2025 or upon mutual agreement. Candidates are expected to have a Master’s degree in physics and hold (or are in the process of concluding) a PhD in physics, theoretical physics or a related area. Significant expertise in the physics of non-equilibrium quantum many body systems, in particular, for closed systems is expected, as substantiated by a respective publication record. Experience with numerical quantum many-body methods such as exact diagonalization, Lanczos techniques, tensor networks or similar approaches is expected. Prior research activity in the physics of interacting cold atomic gases is welcome. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are under-represented. The University has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports its employees in balancing work and family life. A further mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
Please send the following documents (pdf preferred):
1) a cover letter summarizing your background and explaining your interest in, and suitability for, the position, 2) a full CV including an overview of scientific work so far, an outline of research plans, publication list and names of two referees, to Prof. Dr. Fabian Heidrich-Meisner, email: heidrich-meisner@uni-goettingen.de. Informal enquiries about the positions can be sent to the same email address. - All application documents will be deleted after a safekeeping period of 3 months. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2024.
