We are seeking a highly motivated early career researcher with an interest in developing their own line of research in macroecology, biogeography, or functional/tropical ecology in collaboration with Holger Kreft and the Department of Biodiversity, Macroecology and Biogeography. The Department’s research focuses on understanding biodiversity patterns across spatial scales and on how natural drivers and human activities influence these patterns. Current projects address both fundamental and conservation-oriented questions in macroecology, island biogeography, functional plant ecology, and tropical ecology. Many of our ongoing projects utilize the Global Inventory of Floras and Traits (GIFT) database (gift.uni-goettingen.de), and we are currently conducting research in various tropical countries, including Indonesia, Madagascar, Argentina, and Colombia.
Your tasks: Your responsibilities will include advancing research in macroecology, biogeography, or tropical ecology, with the opportunity to develop an independent and compelling research profile. This includes conducting high-quality research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and securing third-party funding. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching and will have the opportunity to (co-)supervise students.
Your profile: You have a degree in ecology, biogeography or a closely related field (Master's/Diploma), and a demonstrated track record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals. You possess excellent quantitative and analytical skills, and are proficient in spoken and written English. Knowledge of German is not required for the position.

The position includes a limited teaching load (4 credit hours/semester) and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research profile. It also provides experience in teaching and supervision that supports qualification for a future professorship. Applicants should hold a Master’s degree and a PhD in ecology or a closely related field.
